About the Founder
I’m Dr Nisha Waller,
A criminologist, researcher and founder of The Curious Classroom.
I’ve spent almost a decade working at the intersection of law, society and inequality, using research to understand how systems work and how they affect people’s lives.
I completed my PhD in Criminology at the University of Oxford, having previously studied Sociology and Criminology. Today, my research supports campaigns for justice and social change, and I work closely with individuals and families affected by miscarriages of justice and unfair treatment.
But I’m also a mum and an aunty - and that’s where The Curious Classroom really began.

Why I Created The Curious Classroom?
Becoming a mum made me think differently about the skills I want the children around me to grow up with.
I want them to be curious enough to ask why. Confident enough to question something when it doesn’t feel right. Able to look for evidence instead of simply accepting what they’re told. Comfortable hearing different perspectives without feeling they have to follow the loudest voice. And confident enough in their own thinking to form an opinion, explain it and stand up for themselves.
So, I created The Curious Classroom to bring the curiosity, investigation and critical thinking at the heart of my own work into resources children can engage with from a young age.
Because we can’t give our children all the answers they’ll need as they grow up. But we can raise children who aren’t afraid to ask the questions.
