The Information Detective

Investigating News, Media and Messages

£18.99

A 42-page activity-packed workbook.

How do we know what information to trust? Why can two people tell the same story differently? And how do the things we see and hear influence what we think?

The Information Detective is a 42-page critical thinking workbook that helps children explore the news, media and messages they encounter every day. Through stories, real-world examples, Curious Challenges and discussion prompts, children investigate how information is chosen and presented, the difference between facts and opinions, who makes the news, how media can try to persuade us, and what happens when information, rumours and messages are shared online.

Rather than teaching children to simply believe or distrust what they see, The Information Detective encourages them to look closer, ask questions and think for themselves. Children explore how the same facts can be presented in different ways, how information can make us feel, and why checking carefully matters before deciding what they think.

There isn’t always one ‘right’ answer. The workbook is designed to spark conversations between children and adults, encouraging children to explain their thinking, consider different viewpoints and become more thoughtful about the information they encounter.

Designed primarily for ages 7–11, with younger children benefiting from adult support.
